The Community Development Department is responsible for economic development within the City. The Department assists with new businesses, business relocation, or business expansions.
Advance Astoria: Economic Development Strategy - The Community Development Department received a Technical Assistance Grant from the Department of Land Conservation and Development in March, 2016. The purpose of this grant is to develop a five year economic development strategy.
The City solicited for professional services to assist in creating an economic development strategy. Community Attributes Inc. (CAI) from Seattle was selected as the preferred consultant. The City Council approved a contract with CAI on October 19, 2016.
The project timeline is as follows:
September – December 2016: Project Initiation, Data Collection, and Technical Analysis
January – March 2017: Community Engagement, Review Draft Concepts
April – June 2017: Draft Action Plan, Review & Adoption Process
Mayor LaMear appointed a citizens advisory committee to help guide the project and provide advice on technical and policy questions that may arise throughout this process:
